Brain and Cognition Dossier

Scientists at Leiden University conduct research on all aspects of the human brain. Psychologists, medical experts and linguists study such diverse subjects as the adolescent brain, how we learn to read, Alzheimer's and stress. You can read all about their work in this dossier.

Four faculties

Four Leiden faculties, Social and Behavioural Sciences, Medicine/LUMC, Science and Humanities, all collaborate on research into brain and cognition. Their co-operation is brought together in the research profile area of Brain function and dysfunction over the lifespan.

Aimed at the public

This research attracts a lot of attention. The researchers often give public lectures, they launch dedicated websites and have even developed lesson modules. Members of the public can also contribute to the research by volunteering as test subjects.

Bilingualism

An example of an activity aimed at a broad public is the symposium on bilingualism being organised by the Leiden Institute for Brain and Cognition on 20 May. If you are intending to bring up your child or children bilingually, you can learn about the different aspects of bilingualism at this conference: dialects, sign language and myths about bilingualism will all be covered during the conference sessions.
